The Peggy Wilson Trust in association with Kildwick Primary School has secured funding from the lottery and other local and national grant providers to develop a small portion, to the far end, of the Peggy Wilson Playing Field. This is to create a very low impact community wildlife and possible, food garden. It is hoped that the garden will be used and supported by the local community, including the school children and other groups and individuals in our community.
The garden will be used to engage local school children in outdoor learning and nature and we will be inviting local community members to get involved in supporting us in teaching the children, maintaining the garden and just enjoying it.
We would really welcome input from local people who would like to get involved in creating and/or maintaining the garden and would be happy to pass on skills and knowledge about wildlife and wildlife gardening.
The design process
Over the last 18 months there has been a lot of planning taking place to bring the Wildlife garden to the Peggy Wilson playing field.
The primary school have been involved with Nature House in the planning, design and application for grants to fund the project.
The total cost of the project is £16,000 with almost all of the required funding being achieved from the following bodies. Huge thanks to them for their help.

Work will be starting at the beginning of 2019 with the hard path being installed. The garden is planned to be completed by the summer of 2019.
The garden will be located at the bottom end of the field and stretch across its full width. It will be 20 metres in depth. A design for the garden is shown below.
Progress to date
So far we have held three community gardening days. We have prepared borders, planted garden areas and hedges, made raised beds and constructed a seating area for a Forest School. We are hoping to host an official 'launch' party later in the autumn term of 2019.
